The Shulls - Cambodia

Dear Pastor and Friends,

Pr 10:22  The blessing of the LORD, it maketh rich, and he addeth no sorrow with it

The Lord has blessed the work here so much since the last prayer letter two months ago. Since the last letter we have seen 5 adults accept Christ as Saviour, and 3 of them have been baptized. There is also a young man and his wife who are going through a salvation bible study series on Sunday nights. They have already finished 3 of the 6 lessons, and are very interested. We have to lay a biblical foundation for salvation before they can accept Christ as Saviour. They know so little of Jesus Christ, and we are careful not to lay a faulty foundation that will soon crumble when persecution arises.

The young man named Tho that I wrote about in the last letter who feels that the Lord is calling him into the ministry is growing by leaps and bounds. Out of the 5 adults who accepted Christ 4 of them are his family members. Tho has been greatly burdened to reach all his family for Christ. Last month Tho and I started going out to his home village every Wednesday to teach the Gospel to his Mother in-law who is dying with cancer. His village is 60 miles from my house and a 2 ½ hour motorcycle ride. So the round trip takes about 5 hours. But the long trip more than paid for itself as Tho’s mother in-law bowed her head and prayed the sinners prayer. It was so precious to hear this simple prayer, and to know another sinner is on her way to heaven. She is 72 years old, and does not have many days of life left. What a blessing. Later we started a Salvation study with his mother also, and two weeks ago Tho led his mother in the sinners prayer as she confessed her sins, and asked Christ to forgive her. We have been going to his village now for 6 weeks. Last Wednesday as we arrived at his mother’s house to disciple her, she went and called her next door neighbors to come and listed to the Gospel presentation also. I was surprised when 7 adults and 4 teens also sat down with me and listened as I presented the Gospel to them. They listened attentively as I taught. It was the first time any of them had heard about the Gospel. Please pray for these 11 people that they will come back next week as I teach further. Also we are hoping to start another church in this area if the Lord will open up the doors. Please pray that God will touch the hearts of those who are hearing the Gospel, and that they will accept Christ as Saviour

My wife received a phone call from a Cambodian American who had moved back to Cambodia after he had retired from Social Services in Washington State. I had met him before and had lunch with him twice. I had not seen him in a while. Well, he called my wife and explained how boring his life is, and that he had nothing to do. He told my wife that he remembered me, and he and his wife wanted to spend time with us, because we are Americans too. He wanted to know if I had anything that he could do. He knows that we are missionaries, and that we start churches. Please pray for him, his name is Henry. Pray that this emptiness in his life the he feels will be filled with the joy that salvation brings. When we do not know the purpose for life we will always be bored and have that emptiness. I believe that God is setting before us an open door.

Also please pray for another new ministry that we started on Saturday nights at our home. We have started a Bible Institute to train our members to be teachers and effective witnesses for Jesus Christ. We start at 6:30 and teach to about 8:00. So far we have had 13 people attending this meeting. Two of these adult students have already taught S.S. classed since beginning the Institute. Last Sunday morning Tho taught his first Adult S.S. class and did a tremendous job. I thought that his first message would be short, so I planned to have more songs, but boy was I surprised! He taught for 30 minutes and did an outstanding job. I couldn’t believe that this was his first time. Please pray for Tho as he continues to grow in the Lord.

Again thank you for your prayer and faithful support, and I trust this brief report will encourage you as you see your investments in Cambodia bear dividends that can never be lost. God bless you for giving to the Lord.
