The Burnetts - Romania

 Jan-Feb. 2010

Dear Praying Friends:

Greetings from Romania!  Though we miss our family it is good to be back preaching to Romanians and in their language.  Since we have been back there have been seven people who have prayed to receive Christ.  I think Bro. Ionel may have the attributes of an evangelist.

As always we want to thank you for your prayerful support of the Lord’s ministry here in Romania!  In the last few months we received approximately $13,000.00 towards the building fund in Sotanga.  We are so grateful to each Church and family that sacrificially gave to meet this need!  We have decided that our best solution to resolve the problem of “access” to the property for building a church is to buy an adjoining piece of land which will give us access to the only usable road, year round.  Also, it will give us the best connection point for various utilities, such as water, electricity, etc.  The land is 1162 sq. meters and will increase the Association’s land by 1/3.  Assuming property values will eventually inch upward, this should be a good investment.  The cost in US dollars will be approximately $8.000.00.  We are trusting that the Lord will provide any additional funds as they are needed.  Before making this decision we sought counsel from our Mission Board, our home Pastor and long serving missionaries here in Romania.

It looks like we may have to start construction in the summer because the regulations and necessary permits are set to higher limits because it will be a public building and not a house.  Please pray that all will go smoothly!

We have had a more difficult winter than usual.  For about two weeks we were basically snowed in.  We only risked going out when it was absolutely necessary.  One night I almost did not make it home because of the blowing snow causing snow drifts on the road.  I had Adelina with me and she thought it was exciting but in the midst of the high winds and blowing snow when my windshield wipers quit it became more of a blind race to make it back to the protection of our village.  We thank God for His watch care over us!

The Lord has opened two new ministry opportunities.   One is in the village of Produlesti (Pro-do-lesht) where we have had a couple of informal meetings in a family’s house.  The people seem to be hungry for the Word of God.  We also have had an outreach in Ulmi (Ulm) which is a suburb of Targoviste.  A young woman, Florina, prayed to receive Christ last Friday night (Feb. 26)!  Please pray for wisdom and power as we preach the Gospel to the Romanian people and as we disciple those that receive Christ!  Please also pray for Floarea Cazacu who is the mother of a church member from Sotanga.  Floarea is 76 years old and dying.  She is at home and barely eating or drinking but she has been lingering.  She also has some strong pains.  Please pray for God to relieve her suffering.  She says that she trusted Christ under our ministry there in Sotanga.

Concerning the military ministry the door has closed as the Obama administration has decided to go ahead and put a defensive rocket system in Romania in lieu of building American bases.  Thank you again for your prayerful support!
